AWE USA 2024 may have come to a close, but here at 3lb Games we are still brimming with excitement over our time spent in Long Beach, CA. From groundbreaking demos to insightful panels and a thrilling award show, this year’s expo showcased the very best the XR industry has to offer. Our team was right in the heart of the action, discussing cutting-edge technologies and showing off our innovative projects. Join us as we reflect on some of the most memorable moments that left us awe-inspired (pun intended) about the future of spatial computing.
Making Connections in the Showroom

This year, 3lb hosted a 20’ x 20’ interactive booth on the exhibition floor, where AWE attendees were the first users to experience colocation in our game, Grokit, through an exclusive look at Grokit: Arena Mode. It was a blast watching both new and seasoned players compete to Chomp the most fish, experience new microgames like Golem Smash, and create their wacky avatars all in the same shared play space!
Interested in trying colocation with your friends and family? Don’t worry – Arena Mode will be available to the public later this year.

Attendees also had the opportunity to engage with the team and learn more about how these games were built with our very own spatial computing development platform, GroKit Core. It was a pleasure to meet with so many innovators and help them discover how they could bring their XR ideas to life.

We are grateful to our friends at ZyberVR and Cleanbox Technology for helping us ensure that the users at AWE who demoed our experiences were both comfortable and safe in our headsets. Zyber hooked us up with their Quest 3 head straps for a perfect fit and provided charging stations to keep our gear powered up between sessions, while Cleanbox supplied their cutting-edge CX Series UVC LED Disinfection cabinet, ensuring our headsets were sanitized and ready to go. If you’re seeking reliable solutions, we cannot recommend these companies enough.
A Deep Dive into Mixed Reality

CEO of 3lb, Robin Moulder took the main stage by storm with industry veterans Jesse Schell (CEO, Schell Games[link]), Tommy Palm (CEO, Resolution Games), and Rita Turkowski (Developer Program Manager, Meta) for a panel moderated by Jenna Seiden (SVP, Skydance Interactive), titled Quest for Innovation: Designing Mixed Reality Games.
The panel answered the burning question: what does it take to create quality mixed reality experiences? These experts enthusiastically dove into a discussion on the many advantages of MR, emphasizing the powerful connection between users, their headsets, and their environments. There were even some predictions made about what might become mixed reality’s next ‘killer app.’
Honoring Women in the XR Industry

In celebration of the many trailblazing women who contribute to the success of the industry, XR Women held their annual award show. Many were in attendance, including Robin, COO Lauren Moulder, and Creative Director, Cordelia Wolf, who represented the many women who are on the 3lb team.
Three honorees were awarded for their groundbreaking work in the XR space:
- Innovation Award – Amy Hedrick, CEO of Cleanbox Technology
- Trailblazer Award – Dr. Muhsinah Morris, Metaversity Director at Morehouse College
- Real World Impact Award – Sonya Haskins, Head of Programming at Augmented World Expo
3lb Wins an Auggie

AWE 2024 marked a milestone year for the prestigious 15th Annual Auggie Awards, boasting its highest number of nominations and finalists to date. It was a huge occasion for us as well as 3lb Games was among these distinguished nominees, recognized in not just one, but two categories!
Best Game/Toy: Grokit
Best Indie Creator: 3lb Games
The 3lb team was elated by the overwhelming support shown by the XR community in the public voting, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped launch us into the final judges’ round. Your enthusiastic votes and encouragement were a big part of our journey to AWE and we are truly grateful.
We are thrilled to announce that our efforts were rewarded with an Auggie Award for Best Indie Creator! Receiving this award was a big step in our journey as we continue pushing the boundaries of immersive technology and delivering innovative experiences. Thank you for believing in our vision, and congratulations to all the Auggies nominees who continue to pave the way for the future of spatial computing.

Although AWE USA 2024 may have come to a close, the 3lb Games team is more excited than ever to jump back into our work. After sharing this time with many passionate creators in the XR industry, it is clear that the future is indeed now and we cannot wait to see what comes next.
