Building Success in Spatial Computing

The Transition from Game Design to Development Platform

When 3lbGames released their mixed reality game, Grokit, it was a culmination of a years-long effort to create a multiplayer experience with an intuitive design that could be enjoyed by players of varying skill levels. By incorporating features such as hand tracking, players could quickly grasp the game with ease without breaking immersion.

As a result, 3lb was able to greatly reduce the cognitive load of learning mechanics, by creating interactivity via natural gestures. The choice was made on the understanding that mixed reality and spatial interaction are key to gaining mass adoption, since it allows users to feel more at ease when they can see and interact with the real world.

These decisions made by the 3lb team made Grokit a unique and highly entertaining immersive experience. However, its impact on the company’s journey as a leader in spatial computing development did not stop there.

Grokit has since paved the way for 3lbXR to field test and refine various mechanics and systems, which would become the foundation for a new spatial computing development platform, aptly named GroKit Core. Since then, the two have been being developed alongside one another, Grokit the game acting as research and development for GroKit Core, and GroKit Core adding new systems to Grokit.

Built on the principles of game design, GroKit Core is the ultimate tool to give enterprises and developers across all industry verticals the building blocks to create fully realized XR applications and immersive business solutions.

With GroKit Core, even developers without deep coding knowledge can incorporate spatial computing features into their experiences, whether for games or for use cases in other industries. Full-code options mean that coding aces can go even further; it’s a full-code solution with a low-code implementation.

GroKit Core facilitates:

  • Integration with Meta Quest headsets
  • Core systems and libraries for hand tracking and interaction
  • Mixed Reality
  • Networking for multiplayer experiences
  • AI generation and recognition
  • GroBlocks – preconfigured starter components

GroKit Core is now in beta. 3lbXR is seeking feedback from early adopters so that they can refine the platform even as they build out additional features. Interested in joining the GroKit Core community? Sign up today!
