The 3lbGames team has recently returned from this year’s Meta Presence Hackathon with a lot to celebrate! This event was a valuable opportunity for 3lb to demonstrate their expertise in spatial computing development, but also their determination as they overcame challenges. The team seized the moment to show off GroKit Core in action, which served as the foundation to build their winning Utility application Home Care Helper.
Curious about how GroKit Core accelerated the team’s success? Read on!
More About Home Care Helper
In our increasingly busy world, it’s become difficult to juggle the tasks necessary to provide for ourselves, our homes, and those we care for. Oftentimes, we may need a little extra help from service providers such as pet sitters, home care aides, and cleaners to help maintain our lives. To increase service providers’ confidence and streamline their communication, 3lbGames leveraged their industry expertise in areas like healthcare and hospitality to develop the Home Care Helper app.
Home Care Helper applies the innovative power of spatial computing to everyday life, creating a seamless interaction between homeowners and service providers through mixed reality and hand tracking technology. The application reduces uncertainty in home care tasks by offering contextual instructions through established points of interest with detailed notes. Users can create task lists linked to these points, serving as a training and reference tool for service providers. You’ll have peace of mind knowing your furry friends are getting the right treats or your loved ones are receiving the home care that best suits their lifestyle.
Powering Innovation with GroKit Core
Although 3lb achieved success with Home Care Helper, it was not the team’s original plan. The first idea was to build a colocation game where players battle as golems in an arena (if that sounds fun, don’t worry, it’s still coming). However, the team faced roadblocks with colocation and had to pivot their efforts as a result.
Despite the challenges, 3lb was not deterred and immediately began to rework their original concept into spatial computing application for the Utility category instead. In order to expedite their development process and make up for lost time, the team reached for their secret weapon: GroKit Core, a robust spatial computing platform. With the foundation from GroKit Core (and the team’s quick action), they were able to create a functional build in the short time left.
GroKit Core’s advanced features, including multiplayer integrations and AI bridges, allowed the team to focus on creating a user-friendly interface and intuitive functionality. Setting up player responsive interactions, tying into the MRUK room based spawning with the multiplayer spawning and positioning systems, creating tracking systems, and making use of the Speech to Text and Text to Speech systems was all dramatically accelerated with the GroKit Core and GroBlocks foundations. This approach saved time and resources, enabling them to deliver a highly effective solution that wowed the judges.
Unlocking Spatial Computing’s Utility Potential through Game Design
The success of 3lbGames at the Meta Hackathon underscores the immense potential of spatial computing for productivity applications in addition to entertainment. Leveraging their extensive experience in game development and GroKit Core’s systems and libraries, the team was able to create an immersive application that is both enjoyable and functional in real world scenarios.
Understanding the relationships between the user and the value of their experiences will be vital to understanding the future of spatial computing adoption. The ability to create engaging experiences, understand user needs and behaviors, and seamlessly integrate technology are key skills which contribute to the creation of applications that are not just functional and efficient, but also enjoyable to use. Home Care Helper, a prime example, demonstrates how spatial computing can be leveraged to revolutionize everyday tasks.
Conclusion
The Meta Hackathon was an exciting display of innovation and creativity, and we’re proud to celebrate 3lbGames’ outstanding achievement. Their success with Home Care Helper is a testament to the power of spatial computing to transform not just the digital world, but our everyday lives as well.
We can’t wait to see what the next wave of spatial computing innovation will bring and how it will further reshape our interaction with the world around us. Congratulations to 3lbGames and all the innovative developers who participated in the event!
