The Meta Quest 3 is now available to consumers and developers alike, taking the next step forward in standalone virtual reality and mixed reality applications. While the experience is fine out of the box, there are definitely ways to improve your VR and MR sessions. For the best quality of life with the new headset, consider these accessory options.
Quest 3 Elite Strap from Zyber VR
Meta has their own Elite Strap for a slightly higher cost, but if you are looking to save on cost, this is a perfectly fine alternative. The thick headset cushions very well and the back plate has angular rotation to account for different head shapes, ensuring a nice comfortable fit. This base model does not currently have a battery backup. Zyber will be adding a battery option soon.
Link n Charge Cable
A link cable is an essential component for connecting your Quest to a PC. With a wired connection, you can play PCVR games on Oculus PC or Steam as well as transfer any videos and pictures you’ve captured on your headset. You want a nice long one so you are able to give yourself some space for gaming. This cable also keeps your headset charged (via the PC) while connected.
Silicone Cover
This silicon cover is fitted for the Quest 3 facial interface. It’s great for keeping fabric clean during a hard workout. It’s also much easier to clean and maintain than fabric material. Silicon does not absorb sweat, so if you sweat a lot using VR, this is a much more hygienic option. It is also more affordable than replacing the entire facial interface altogether.
AA Rechargeable Batteries
The cost of batteries for your controllers can add up quickly. It never fails the one time you pick up a controller it’s dead and you don’t have any AA batteries left or you cannot find the recharger. This set includes two sets of AA batteries to swap in and out of the charger so you always have batteries ready to use.
Quest 3 Demoing Brick
3 ports (2 USB-C and one USB-A) allows you to recharge multiple devices at the same time. The 65W is more than enough to keep all devices charged. If you have a Quest, a battery backup, and a battery recharger, this is a perfect all-in-one solution.
Infrared LED Light
Quest controllers actually have IR sensors in them and your headset detects these lights to track them in 3D space, but you need adequate lighting for this and even more so for accurate hand tracking. This portable IR light emits IR light to aid with tracking, allowing you to play with controllers or hand tracking in poorly lit areas. It also works in total darkness if you are so inclined (and brave).
This is by no means a comprehensive list. There are multiple other accessories like charging docks, controller grips, and floor mats among others that further enhance your experience. These are items that the 3lb Games team has personally used in development or our downtime, so we can vouch for their effectiveness.
